• Caroline Heycock (University of Edinburgh) gave a talk on April 4th: Have you any idea what’s going on? Have-raising and its loss in Scotland

Conferences, Workshops and Presentations

in May

• Natasha Korotkova is presenting at the workshop "Evaluative language" on May 6-7 in Paris. The talk is entitled "Find" (joint work with Pranav Anand, UCSC).
  
  
• Anna Czypionka will give a talk at the meeting "Dimensions of wh-words: a German-Italian question time" (May 6th-8th, Villa Vigoni, Menaggio, Italy; presentation in 4th discussion forum on May 7th).
  
  
• Ryan Bochnak will be giving an invited lecture at the 24th Workshop on the Structure and Constituency of Languages of the Americas (WSCLA), which will be held at the University of Maryland on May 9-11. His talk will be on "Graded Futures in Washo".
  
  
• From May 17th to May 19th Eva Csipak and Maribel Romero will be at Semantics and Linguistic Theory (SALT) 29, UCLA, to give a talk: "Counterfactual biscuit conditionals: A temporal remoteness account".
  
  

in April

• Members of our department presented several parts of their work at the workshop Doing Experiments with Theoretical Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam on April 4th:    

Anna Czypionka and Josef Bayer gave a talk on "Licensing and Locality in German wh-questions with discourse particles".

Anna Czypionka, Anne-Sophie Hufer, and Tanja Kupisch presented a poster with the title "Ongoing article grammaticalization in German: Experimental evidence and corpus data".

Joanna Błaszczak, Anna Czypionka, and Dorota Klimek-Jankowska presented a poster on “Understanding categories: An assessment of the "verbal" P200 in ERP measurements".

Dorota Klimek-Jankowska, Anna Czypionka, and Joanna Błaszczak presented a poster entitled “The domain of interpretation of perfective and imperfective aspect: Breaching theoretical and psycholinguistic approaches".

• Miriam Butt attended a DFG-initiated conference from April 8th to 9th in Berlin on Traceability and securing of results as essential challenges of research in the digital age, for which she served on the scientific committee.
  
  
• Katharina Zahner gave an invited talk at the University of Cologne on April 29th as part of the colloquium in the phonetics department. The talk was on the role of different pitch accent types in stress processing and the mechanisms therein.

Travelling

Andreas Trotzke, Katharina Kaiser, and Ramona Wallner participated in the kick-off workshop of Trotzke's DAAD project "Surprise questions from a comparative perspective" (PROCOPE funding scheme). The meeting took place at Université Paris Diderot/CNRS Laboratoire de linguistique formelle Paris (Labex) from April 16 to April 18.

Julia Bacskai-Atkari will present a poster entitled “Relative features and lower complementisers in West-Germanic comparatives” at the workshop Germanic Sandwich 2019 (GS2019) at the University of Amsterdam, 23–24 May.

On April 11, Andreas Trotzke has been awarded the title Adjunct Professor (Außerplanmäßiger Professor) by the Faculty of Humanities (Geisteswissenschaftliche Sektion) of the University of Konstanz.

The first meeting of the newly founded network of Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinators from the Philologies will take place in Konstanz on 2nd and 3rd May 2019. Christina Bohle, Institutional Erasmus+ Coordinator at the Philipps-Universität Marburg and Melanie Hochstätter, Erasmus+ Coordinator for the Faculty of Humanities in Konstanz, have jointly invited colleagues from their respective partner institutions to this inaugural meeting to discuss topics relevant in student and staff mobility and internationalisation in general.
The programme is available at the network website. Everyone interested in any of the talks/workshops is welcome to join! The meeting takes place in the conference room on K7.

Farhat Jabeen and Elisabeth Delais-Roussarie (University of Nantes) have been accepted for a talk in ICPhS' satellite workshop on the "Intonational phonology of typologically rare or understudies languages". The title of their talk is "Towards a phonological analysis of the rising contours in Urdu/Hindi".
