Research

Nicole Dehé's research focuses on topics in prosody/intonation and the interfaces between prosody and syntax and between prosody and discourse. Current research focuses on Insular Scandinavian intonation and the syntax-prosody interface in Icelandic, the syntax and prosody of North American Icelandic ('heritage Icelandic'), and the prosody of rhetorical questions (and related utterance types; currently German, English, Icelandic, Chinese and Italian).

Bettina Braun's research interests lie in the phonetics and phonology of intonation, particularly the processing of contrast, the mental representation of intonation (in infants, adults, and non-natives), the integration of segmental and suprasegmental information during speech comprehension, the effect of the native language prosodic system on second language acquisition.

Bettina Braun and Nicole Dehé are currently co-PIs on a project on the prosody of rhetorical questions; see project page.
